Protein skimmer for JBJ 28g nano

No problem, glad to help. I keep a heater on the left chamber and a bag of carbon on the right. Even with the skimmer in place, there's a few inches below it for some chaeto to grow in the middle. Also, I'm not sure if you already know this, but make sure the lights for the 'fuge is on an opposite photoperiod from the main lights.

So I get the skimmer and realize that it will only fit in the filter chamber. Which means all other filter media has to be removed. Which does me absolutely no good at all.

You don't need all that media in the center chamber. The only thing I use in my center chamber is chaeto. I have carbon and a heater in a side chamber and my protein skimmer in the other side chamber.

I just have mine in a bag down the chamber right next to the main chamber. There is still enough room for my heater on top of it. You will still have the other chamber on the other side to run any other media you like as well.

Yeah, simple enough to just drop it in the pump chamber next to it as I change the carbon. Easy stuff

Honestly after all this I'm thinking of just returning the eshoppes until I can figure out what I'm doing. I have to focus on getting the tank up and running next month. I have time to add the protein skimmer and carbon reactor later. I don't like the idea that the eshoppes creates a problem opening the lid. I may just hold off until I can afford an hob. I'll be starting with hardy fish and soft corals. Sounds like I don't have to have a skimmer until I have a full load of fish and start adding lps.

Oh definitely. The skimmer isn't really necessary if you do routine water changes. Especially if you keep the bio load down enough. I have a cheapo coralife protein skimmer in mine. It barely does anything and I probably don't need it but I use it anyway. I just like the idea of over cleaning with a protein skimmer which is why I was on this thread as well.

What chamber do you have that in your jbj 28? He wants one that leaves the center chamber free.

It's weird that you say that because on Marine Depot's will it fit video it shows the jbj 28 is too small for that skimmer. How did you make it work?

I think I will get a protein skimmer and get rid of my media basket eventually. I will probably run a carbon reactor or get a sump at some point. I need to get fish in this thing and worry about that stuff later.

I just have a standard 30 but I think there are videos of people modding the tank to make it fit. I might be thinking of a different brand though.
