Protein skimmer help?!

Hi, I have a boyu protein skimmer (I actually have 2, they came free wit the tank) but no instructions. I have never used a protein skimmer before so only have a vague idea on how to use it, but currently its very noisy and not doing much skimming, just wondering how to actually work it and if its meant to be this noisy, which is expected as its not very good quality so I might just buy a better one. Just wondering if anyone can give me some some advice on how to actually use them?

Im not familiar with those skimmers but I did a google search on them. They are junk fromwhat I am seeing. Get a better skimmer.

I would suggest this. If you’ve never used a skimmer before I would go with a trusted brand (many threads here on suggestions) before getting started in hobby that has enough frustrations without poor equipment ! If you are a tinker type of person you could see if you could get the skimmers to work but don’t underestimate the lack of issues by purchasing quality equipment right out of the gate. I just watched a video yday on Sanjay Joshi speaking on reef tank suggestions. Worth a watch! Two of his points were patience and quality equipment.

The noise could be something caught in the pump. Is it making bubbles?
