Protein skimmer suggestions

Hi everyone, I am wondering what you guys would suggest for a new skimmer. I had an Eshopps HOB skimmer that suddenly died on me last week. The reason it was HOB is because I got it before I decided to add my sump. Anyway, I need a new skimmer that goes into my sump and don't want to break the bank. I have been looking into Eshopps, reef octopus, vertex omega, and smimmz. All have good and bad reviews. The skimmer is going to go into my 30 gallon sump. Any help deciding would be greatly appreciated...

I don't own one yet, so can't say personally but I have about settled on a AquaMaxx ConeS - they have great reviews and the price seems reasonable.

I'm actually looking at the Skimz Octo skimmer, but I cant find any reviews, or videos anywhere. It looks like a well built skimmer with a fine German pump, but I was wondering if anyone has any input on this skimmer?

I love my Skimz sn123! For a 55 gallon like yours, I'd go with the sn143 which is similar, just bigger. For the money, I don't think you can do much better.

No idea what brand but a LFS sold the body used for 25$ and said he could get them new for not much more, then I got an aquatop 600+GPH pump off of amazon for 30ish$ with venturi attachment(make sure you put it on input side of pump) and it's the best skimmer I've had, blows away my Coralife 125. What size display and what are you keeping in it or plan to keep in it?

well no wonder I like it, it's a 250$ skimmer lol I figured it was some cheap china body or something since he sold it to me so cheap. Thank you dave at Ozarkreef Aquaria!

You can actually do that with any hob skimmer.

I ended up getting some good performance out of my coral life super skimmer after modifying it into an airstone skimmer.

Got a heck of a lot more air and much much finer bubbles in that body and better skimmate then that rio pinwheel pump.

Otherwise I consider it a step above the seaclone skimmer I also used before that. Though the seaclone was fun to watch.
