Protein skimmer suggestions

Hi all,

I am in the process of setting up a 90 gallon reef aquarium with a 20 gallon aquarium which I am going to be turning into my sump. Since it is just a regular 20 gallon aquarium I would need to know how to partition it and I am looking for suggestions on what skimmers to look at and what return pump to get. I am looking to house soft coral and a few fish.

Thanks,

Glenn

I have read good things about Bubble Magus and Reef Octopus. I am currently looking into getting an Eshopps skimmer

I have a 90 with a 29 gallon sump. I use a reef octopus 150sss. Fits perfect in my first sump section. It pulls tons of gunk and I don't even use a bubble trap in my sump. Just 2 pieces of glass to separate the refugium from the skimmer and return pump. Works great!

You are going to hear many/different opinions on this topic, but I have had great success with Aquamaxx and Simplicity (currently running). Both are durable, quiet, and very powerful and didn't break the bank.

If you want a needle wheel skimmer Reef Dynamics, Aquamaxx, Eshopps, and Ice Cap all use SICCE pumps and have good reviews $240- $300+. I personally can vouch for Reef Dynamics. If you want alternative to needle wheel I can also personally vouch for Life Reef 24" $429+ shipping$50 + $72 for Jecod DCT 6000 or AquaC EV 180 for $340+$72 for Jecod DCT 6000.
