Protein Skimmer

I am in the market for a new skimmer for my 90 gallon reef, any recommendations? I really don't want to spend the money for a Deltec. I have been looking at the ETSS skimmers, Euro-Reef skimmers, and I heard that the MTC skimmer sold at Aquatic Technology is a great skimmer as well. I would prefer one that is free-standing, not hang on or in-sump.
Thanks, Jeff

I was planning to put the skimmer under the aquarium and there is about a 26 inch height there. I have around 12 inches by 15 inches for clearance at the base, and I don't have any electrical expectations.
Thanks.

does the thought of tearing down the sunp to drill for an external pump bother you? the external needlewheels are going to cost $ upfront but are plug and play. beckkets and downdrafts are going to require more setup/plumbing.

Don't waste your money on a Deltec unless you have it to burn. You can get the same effect from a Euroreef model skimmer at a lesser cost. You usually find a good deal in the used forsale forum on here. A lot of people upgrade and have one to sell. I used to run a becket skimmer prior to my euroreef. The euroreef is hands down much easier to work with and tune.

also check out the DAS and H&S skimmers, there is allot of middle ground in between deltec and MRC, you can find a skimmer that will not give you the headaches of the beckett and save you money over the deltec.

a Euro Reef RC would be an exellent external skimmer.

I can tell what I use and am very pleased with it. The ASM-G2(works well and easy to adjust) w/no mods.
I use it in a sump, but I thought that it might be applicable for outside sump applications, I really can't remember because all I was interested in was sump applications.
Hope that helps.

I just removed an ASMG2, i wouldn't trust it external even with 3 tubes of silicone!! Mine was in sump and thats where it belongs.
