Protein Skimmer

I know this is a big subject of debate but I am looking for a protein skimmer capable of handling 150 gallons in sump in a standard aquarium stand for under $200. I am open to suggestions though I have been looking at the turbofloater and the berlin models.

Octopus by coral vue is the only way to go IMO. Beware a lot of counterfits out there though. have had lots of success and very clean tanks using them.

I don't think that skimmer exists, you may have to up your price a little or have a skimmer that isn't quite capable of handling the load. Tanks that size usually need a good skimmer and good skimmers aren't cheap. Look into the DAS brand of skimmers, they are cheap and good.

Rob at Southwest ordered me an Octopus for my 240 gallon tank, I loooove it so far. I think for the price you are looking at, you may have to get a used one. But I would recommend the Octopus skimmers, they are relatively inexpensive compared to other brands out there...

Keep an eye out for good skimmers on the used equipment selling forum, you can pick up some good skimmers for cheap.

I have a Nautilus 2000(??? I think thats the name) that I would probably part with. Its pretty legit, you would just need a pump for it, it think 900-1200gph. Its rated for a big tank, but you cant really go to big when it comes to skimmers. Email me at mph@email.arizona.edu if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer, just on a info finding mission at this point, i'm doing research for the "Dream tank" that I hope to setup in the next 4-6 months.

well the octopus system seems to generate good reviews and I have found the 150 gallon model on several sites for about 160-170 so that is the one I will probably go with if/when I get my 110 tall

Whatever you choose to get, get the best you can. Cheap with a skimmer will only bite you later on. I have a Euro Reef and love it. I got a great deal on it on Ebay and it works great. I paid $158 plus shipping for mine and it is rated for 125 gallons. Good luck.

You can find it. I just found a Euro Reef rs 135 for that price. If you can wait awhile and keep your eye open, you can find great used skimmers in that price range. Check local reef club threads and craigslist.
