protein skimmers

i am only one week new at this, i have asg2 protein skimmer in a berlin sump. the skimmer makes so much foam that it seems to dribble also down under the cap for the collection cup. there is film that fills slowly in the cup so i know is working but is it sposed to overflow the foam into the next section of the sump, i mean the foam doesnt get through the filter which is like a sponge. ?
also, there is a film that recently developed in the section of the sump that is the clear clean water, is that normal? please help i am drowning??

im not familiar with your skimmer, but there should be at least 1 or even 2 air ajustment pipes for the skimmer, you will need to get the water right down to the bottom of the rim of the cup and make sure the lid is pushed on properly of the cup as well

How old is the skimmer? If it's new, Did you rinse the skimmer before you put it in the tank? New skimmers usually have a breaking time, washing the skimmer helps reduce that time. When they come from the factory the acrylic has a coating on it.

How high in the skimmer body, upper cone, or collection cup are you running the water level.

I keep my water level, right at the neck where the collection cup attaches to the upper cone. Any higher and I get overflow filling the collection cup.
