Protein Skimmers

Does anyone know anything about the Jebo P skimmer? I think I need a new one and dont have much money. Just being new to SW tanks..anything and everything has happened along the way alot of unexpected expenses. I need a cheap but good (I know asking alot here). Ive seen several on Ebay..one being a Jebo for about $60 (new)...they also so the Marineland Seaclone and Coralite ones. Which is better for the money, I have a 75gal FOWLR tank currently. Any input would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about either of these, but I will say that your skimmer is one of the most important pieces of gear and you definitely should not skimp on one if at all possible. I know that money is tight for you, but I would suggest going without one for a few months and saving for something decent rather than getting a cheap one now that's probably not going to be very efficient/useful. I don't know anything about them, but I see a lot of people posting about the Octopus skimmers as a cheap but decent brand.

i would say out of the 3 You named in that $ range the Coralife would be the one to get.Not saying it is a good skimmer but the one I would buy if I had to pick one.If there is any way not to skimp on it I wouldnt. It is basically the heart of the system IMO.

Ok...what is a decent one? Id say i could spend up to $200 for one. obviously if i could get away cheaper I'd rather. For all i have invested in it now, i want something that is going to do the job right and help keep my tank clean and thriving.

Do you want an in-sump skimmer (my preference) or a hang-on-back? I would NOT buy the Coral Life Super Skimmer unless that was pretty much the last skimmer on Earth available to me. Very touchy/needy, prone to flood/overflow, gets clogged very easily/frequently, etc. Plus, it's not so cheap anymore at $224 (for the SS220). For almost all skimmers, you really need to get one that is rated twice as big as your tank because most of the time they are incredibly over-rated. The only exceptions I know of are the AquaC skimmers (the EV-120 would be a good skimmer for your tank) and the EuroReef skimmers. Your problem is going to be that there are not a lot of choices in the $200 range. If you're willing to spend another $80-$100, you can get a really good skimmer that will last you a long time.

out of the 3 you named i would go with the coralife super skimmer. the others are junk.

now do you have a sunp or do you need a hang on the back model?

octopus skimmers are very good for the money and a nice HOB skimmer. my buddy has one and it works great for him.

now if you have a sump you can actually get a very good skimmer for the money you wanna spend. i recomend the ASM G1 if you can swing the little extra cash. maybe even a ASM G1X.... but there are other good in sump skimmers that you could get for a decent price.

You get what you pay for. If you get a 60 dollar skimmer, you get a 60 dollar skimmer.

As abulgin said, the Octopus skimmers are real nice.

The ASMs are $260+, just a little less than the AquaC EV-120, so I think they are out of the OP's price range.

A good place to look is also the used equipment and dry good fourm. There is a few aqua c there right now. Less than 200.

a skimmer is very important. I wish I had more experience with larger tank (and in sump skimmers) to help you out better, but I do know that unfortunately none of the skimmers you list are that great.

Try skimming (no pun intended, lol) the equipment forum threads. You'll get a lot of great info.
