Protien Skimmer Adjustments

I use a EuroReef ES135, which is basically the same as the "old" RS. On mine the outlet pipe is a strait pipe sticking strait up vertically. I have no bubbles because the outlet pipe has a foam sleeve that covers it. The returning water comes out the top of the pipe and down through the foam sleeve.

Does the RS have the outlet pipe that goes up like mine with the elbow comming off of it and pointing back down?

I am not used to that configuration, so my way may or may not help.

Is the skimmer new? I have heard from others that the RS may make bubbles until it breaks in. Just a thought.

My rs 80 has been making microbubbles for 2 weeks.I tried everything.Including calling Euro. They said it must be my water.I used carbon for a week at there advice, didnt help. Finally I took it off, Im gonna sell it and try something else.Good Luck

actually on this model the return goes down. See pic below.

And, what should the level of the bubbles be in the cup inside the skimmer?

Here is the pic:

Thats the one I have.I tried to keep the bubbles about an inch up in the cup.It really skims well, just cant take the microbubbles coming out the exit.

I think ER sells the foam sleeve for this unit. Should be able to contact them direct or where you purchased the unit from and tell them you need it.

how will the foam sleeve help if the return is under water? Someone on the marinedepot site suggested putting a ball valve. Will that work?

I took off the foam sleeve because of all the junk it builds up. I have the older version too.

Won't putting a ball valve on the output allow you adjust the level of the foam? A gate valve is better.

put a gate valve on the output section that is pointed down? Is this correct? I will look into that. Thanks.

i adjusted the top pipe so that the bubbles barely reach the top of the skimmer. I was wondering about the bubbles in the output pipe (going down). If I increase the height of the water in the sump will that help?

The fine bubbles in the body should not make it all the way to the bottom. There should be a gap. Open the air valve all the way or just remove it.
