I have the protein skimmer octopus bh 1000 and got that working for the most part. But there are some foam rings that are place around the out flow of the unit. The only thing I can see them used for is to trap the bubbles coming out which reduces the current next to the right intake tube where junk from the aquarium comes in
Is that mainly why they are there, are they really needed. Its a display tank so sort be nice if they were not there, but if they have a valuable use then ok.
