(phender dont hit me)
i dont think you need the shade..70 watts isnt THAT bright even though its a small tank. he's under the rock, so he found his own shade...notice some tents are sticking out a bit--if he wanted to, he could pull those back in.
you could put a few sheets of window screen over the top, and see if that causes him to move to someplace 'better.'
if so, then pull away one sheet every...week.
just because you cant ask him questions doesnt mean he isnt communicating with you...yes, he's bleached (i'm sick). he eats the silversides? (i'm not so sick i can't eat) he's under the rock? (i like it here--toughie, but i think we have consensus on 'its bright out there').
keep in mind, some of these same detractors will use stress to induce a nem to split...so who's the cruel jerk here?
(hey, you can say anything you want as long as you smile after you say it!!!)
see if you can get some non-silverside FRESH or fresh frozen seafood. if you can offer some diversity of diet, that has to help.
(nb: i dont. mine eats silvers. too lazy to make more seafood gumbo for him)
water quality, continuous (or close to it) saline levels, enough light of some kind and time.
PHENDER: small daily feedings?
Doc: do you have a skimmer? or a filter with water changes? If you start feeding more often, your water may get dirty, then you get algae everywhere (guess how i know), so keep up the quality.
have a good weekend,
