Hi,

If you're not going to be at the meeting on 22 Feb 2003, you can still vote for in the BRS 2003 Officer election.
Just go to the BRS homepage: www.bostonreefers.org and click on the VOTE you see at the top of the page.

From there you'll be taken to our voting page. It's very self-explanatory.

We will open the poll at 11:30 Saturday morning (22Feb2003) and close them at 12:30.

We'll count your votes at the meeting, and add them to the paper ballots.

Thanks,
Moe

By the way - only paid members can vote.

In accordance with the BRS by-laws, Friends of the BRS are not elligible to cast a vote for officers.

Just curious ?..Why only a 1 hour window ? I can understand the 12:30 deadline, but why wouldn't we be able to cast a vote anytime until then ? It makes it kind of hard for people busy or traveling (which is probably why we can't be at the meeting in the first place).

I will open the voting 30 minutes early in the event that I can't get internet access while I'm at the library - just in case.

Steve

Once again ...and not that it matters this time. But for future elections. Why not say.... a week ahead ?or a couple of days any way ?

This is Steve at PyroJon's house.

Voting is now Open!!!

On the BRS Homepage you will find a VOTE link.

If you have any troubles with logging in or whatever just send mail to info@bostonreefers.org these votes will be added to the tally at the end of the voting period.

Good idea Marc. It just wasn't something we thought of. We'll give a couple of days next year.

I agree with marco, why only an hour. we have 200 + members, many didnt make the meeting or could be available at that time. we need a db guy to have a log in and make it so only one member has one vote but the polls stay open longer. IMO

Actually, the issue is that the voting booth program did not allow us to get a list of people who voted on-line. It is anonymous (only the IP address is captured). We didn't have enough time to code a patch for it. There was no way to prevent someone from voting on-line and also at the meeting. That's why the on-line voting was limited to the same time period as the meeting time (you can't be at two places at the same time). I know right now some of you are rolling your eyes and saying, sheez, it's only a reef club. Well, as you saw, the voting was very close. And, as a Massachusetts corporation and non-profit entity, we have an obligation (both legal and ethical) to hold our elections in a manner which prevents tampering. Having said all of that, I agree that the process could be improved. And improved it will be for next year! :)

"A manner which prevents tampering".... Somebody should tell that to the Mass. elections officials. Nov 2002 was the first time I voted in Mass. and I didn't even have to show ID.
