Puffer fish reef safe?

So I'm not getting a puffer right now, but I'm doing my research.
I'd love to have one in the future but not sure if I can. I've read so many back and fourths on it being reef safe and not.

I have cleaner shrimp, snails and crabs. Can I get one or will he eat them all? Mostly my shrimp, I e grown fond of my shrimp and don't want to kill it.
What about with corals?

So can I get one?

It will honestly depend on the individual puffer. You will have more luck with a sharpnosed puffer not eating all the inverts, but there is no guarantee. I have a Valentini, and he doesn't bother my micro hermits or snails. I don't have shrimp though. Mine doesn't bother the corals. It's mostly the inverts that make them reef safe with caution.

Each puffer is different, and people will have different experiences.

Are you thinking about a large puffer, or a dwarf (Toby) variety?
