Puffers and Acrylic?

The next fish into my new 240 will likely be a Puffer. I have heard that the Dogface type are known to scratch acrylic with their beaks. Just wanted to hear if anyone has had any longterm in an acrylic tank and how they faired. I know of several people that have had Porky Puffers in acrylic, but I have already had a Porky in a previous tank and would like to try something different.

I had a golden puffer and he scratched the sh** out my brand new acrylic tank!!!!

My brothers porc has scratched the hell out of his 600g acrylic. After 8 years of him being in the tank and rubbing against the glass, his teeth have made the tank hard to view in areas.

I have had puffers for years and they never seem to get near the acrylic.... what what they be doing when they scratch the acrylic?

When I feed my porc. He swims back and forth with his mouth against the glass.
I don't know for sure, but a porcupine puffers teeth don't hang out like a dogface's.

You have had puffers for years but your experience says one year?

Anyways, they will usually try to get your attention by swimming back and forth in front of you against the acrylic and their teeth often scratch it. I have not seen many puffers that do not do this at some point. The bigger they get, the bigger the scratches get. Fish like puffers and Triggers are not good for acrylic tanks. I know there was one guy on my local forum who had to give up his beautiful trigger pair because just their skin was scratching the acrylic when they swam against it.

Reefer334 took the words right out of my mouth! My puffer has done the same. I am still working on trying to find a way to trim his teeth on a regular basis. I am also going to try a light buffing once a week using my mighty magnet and a piece 12000 mesh.
For me, being able to see an awesome animal like this in my living room everyday outweighs the fact that a 3/4" sheet of acrylic is like 500$

Blue Throat. And they were very big and gorgeous. Last I remember him saying, the public aquarium here was taking them.
