Pulled the trigger

Just wanted to thank everyone for the help. I just ordered the Canon 30D (body only), 100mm Macro, 580 flash, and was originally looking at the 50mm 1.8 but I really needed some sort of wide angle so I got the 17-85mm f/4-5.6 Image Stabilized USM. That should suffice for a walking around lens.

Should be here tomorrow.

Thanks again

Mike

If 17 turns out to not be wide enough for you, I highly recommend the Tokina 12-24 f/4 I'm very happy with mine.

That lens was a tough call. I have heard good and bad. I really liked the sharpness and simplicity of a 50mm prime for just shooting around, but considering the 1.6x factor I thought it would be difficult to get a good wide shot of my tank. (6ft 240 gallon). I could have looked at wide angle primes but I needed a walking around lens anyway. My next purchase will be a large zoom. Available duckets will determine which one. And I'm getting the girlfriend a Rebel xt for christmas.

THE NEW CAMERAS HERE! THE NEW CAMERAS HERE!

Okay, before you start asking for photos, let me charge the battery and read the instructions.

I have the D200, it's my second Nikon DSLR, I've been shooting a long time and I find this camera amazing.

I can't speak for the 30D but I can vouch for the D200. It is one of my favorite cameras ever. It's even got an intervalometer control for shooting time lapse shots. Very cool camera.

Both are great cameras will end up making sure that the photographer is the weak link. When you pick Canon or Nikon, you're picking a system not just a camera. Once you spend money on some good glass you'll not want to abandon your choice and switch.

Go to the store with a spare memory card. Shoot some pictures with each, see how they feel in your hand and review your images. Pick the camera that feels more comfortable in your hand.

I think you can just look at astrogazer's pictures to see how good the Nikon is.

My research says they're both great cameras. Its all about the glass and the photgrapher.

I didn't get to play with my new 30D much last night. Kept getting interupted by trick or treaters. Little Beggars! Just kiddin, some were cute. Especially the ones under 17. Man there were a few big ones.

I got a 30d and love it too. Not a real good shooter by any means, but the cam seems to make up for a lot of my shortcomings.
My wife just got me a EF 100mm f2.8 for our 11 anniversary on monday, and it's on an UPS truck for delivery today. I think I'm getting sick and I'm gonna have to call it a half day. ;)

Please no "N" word on this Canon 30D thread...lol :)

Playing with my macro lens. You know that baby has a real shallow DOF wide open.... I think this one is at f16 1/250. Still need lots of practice

If you really want to shoot macros of your fish you'll want to master the strobe, if you command the light you can control the DOF.
