Pulsating Xenia not pulsing

Hey everyone.

I have a new frag of pulsating Xenia. The only problem is it's not pulsating. It's been in the tank for 2 days now. Seems like it should be pulsating by now. It's opened up nicely looks healthy but just not pulsating. Is this normal behavior after being transferred? Do I just need to give it more time? All other live stock healthy.

Thanks
Paul

im fairly new with coral but can tell you mine would slowly pulse the first week maybe once an hour or so, but they started pulseing great the second week. I have read that occasionally a batch will just stop for no good reason though. Hope that helps some, patience is our friend, but I could use a bag of it cause im way short!

Thanks for the input. I figured it would just need time to adjust, but wanted to make sure nothing else could be causing it not to pulsate. BTW my PH stays at 8.2. Had a sandsifting star dye on me, though my Phos. might be high but they were undetectable went checked. Everything else was fine. I was just curious if this was normal or not. Thanks again.

yeah, needs the proper ph of 8.0-8.2. it can become somewhat aggravated when to low. also they tend to like "dirty" nutrient rich water. meaning if your using a large protein skimmer on a tank that is not producing a lot of nutrients there is a chance that they may be starving. also xenia needs proper lighting.

what kind of lighting do you have?

xenia can take many differnt intensities of lighting however it tends to rise and grow upwards towards the light most often.

so this is JMO and agginst the review of many other skimmer lovers, but you could reduce your skimmers skim rate.

I have had some Xenia Elongata for about 2 months and have fragged it twice. My origianl frag is in my 90 gal. display w/MH and pulses great and grows really fast. Another frag is in my frag tank with only PC lighting and it looks the same, just no pulsing. I have heard of them doing this in different tanks. I use tank water from the display for WC's on my frag tank, so I must assume it's the lighting. JME.

xenias are tricky. The fact that its not pulsing means nothing. Just the way they are. As long as its healthy, then you have nothing to worry about. As it splits, new stalks may pulsate.
