Pulsing Xenia = GONE !!!!

Guys, Guys, Guys,

I had two frags of pulsing xenia and overnight they have both dissapeared, rock clean !!!

Can you advise if this has happened to anybody else ????

This has happened to me before and never found out why !!!

Is there a hunter that eats Xenia ?

Xenia will just do that. I went from 2 stalks to the Xenia taking up 1/4 of my 58G over a 2 month period. Then in 2 weeks time it all melted away. Other corals, fish, etc are fine. Now you would never know I had ANY as it is all gone.

That what happens. It can melt away within hours. How long was it in there? Even more weird is the fact that months from now it may start to grow again in ur tank.

Are you sure it didn't move to a spot where you can no longer see it?

Xenia is a very mysterious creature. I know most people find it annoying but I for one find it very Intriguing.

were the frags relatively new? I had one that decided to detach after a few hours of being in my tank and then just got washed away.....

They can also "melt" surprisingly quickly if water params get bad.

Water parameters don't even have to be bad for Xenia to melt. I've seen many tanks that are perfect and stable but can't support Xenia at all. Another reason I find Xenia so interesting.

That's what happened to mine. I'll tell you it's picky stuff. You either can't grow it at all, or you can't kill it.

I have a brittle star and a short spined urchin..........

thoughts ?

p.s thx for the feedback before.

I have personally watched brittle stars attacking my xenia but I doubt that's what happened in your case.

I have three angels including a flame, have to cut about 20 stalks every month trying to keep xenia under control. Have 4 different kinds still think it great.

my Xenia disapperead after about 4 months in my tank and a doubling or tripling in size. Just started to melt away until it was gone.

I have a small forest of it in the middle of my tank, then one day I saw a 1/2" stalk with 2 arms pumping attacked to a shell

I was so excited that it some how made it a 1 1/2' across the tank somehow without me seeing it, and was doing good

Next morning, GONE!
forest in middle of the tank looked the same...Love this crazy ****!

I've noticed that Xenia is highly sensitive to changes in Alkalinity.

I had a similar situation with my White Pom Pom Xenia dying as my alkalinity started to decrease below the parameters that it should be.

At the same time by silver branch Xenia is completely unaffected.

Test your Alkalinity and see if it's off. If you find that it is off be sure to make small adjustments.
