Pulsing Xenia question

For the past three years my pops has been asking for a pulsing Xenia in my 29. I've been opposed to adding one because of my philosophy on how I view my tank. I view it as, myself being a real estate developer living next to my plot of land. Now, I can choose to either, fill the land with trailers, or I can fill it with nice luxury homes. Now, which of those types would you want to look at every single day.
...Oops, sorry for the Tangent.
Anyway, my question is, do the pulsing Xenias have the same growth rate as the normal weed Xenias? I don't want a weed to start taking over my beloved zoanthids and LPS, as I have been avoiding buying such type of coral for three years.

Thanks,

Don't put it on you're main rockwork then. Put a small rock on the sand and attach it there. It will stay on its island.

The trailer vs luxury home comparison really doesn't work since many people love $5 Xenia more than a $500 chalice. Beauty and worth is in the eye of the beholder

Happy reefing.

it really is mesmerizing how it pulses. its a very neat coral, cheap, and grows easily. it gets a bad wrap because its so easy to grow it spreads quickly, but as its already been said, it you isolate it so it cant spread, its a great addition.

do something to make your pops happy, you wont regret it.

I grow mine on the back wall of the tank. It has been there about a year. It has split 8 times but all of them tend to walk to the top third of the tank.

The different Xenia's are roughly the same in the 'weed' regard. Some of the relatives are calmer, but just about everything that gets labeled Xenia is the same, growth-wise.

Keep an eye on it. It'll definitely cover whatever it can find. And it can grow into a tree-style if it wants too. So the island method works, but does require at least a periodic eye on it to make sure it isn't trying to stretch out to a nearby rock. On the good side, it is a basically indestructible coral (if you can keep it alive - strangely enough some tanks just plain won't support it for unknown reasons). So if it starts to stretch just chop that piece off as low as possible.

well it wont stay on its island for long... sections will pop off as they outgrow the island and re-attach elsewhere. Just keep an eye out for these and glue them to little rocks and shells to sell at frag swaps...
