First of all, make sure what you have is a Xenia and not a Cespitularia or Anthelia. Once you confirm that, then you can move on to the amount of lighting it gets. The pulsing action is believed to be a form of respiration and if it's not getting enough light and not producing massive amounts of food, then there's little reason to respire much. Having too much current on them also reduces the pulsing as once again, there's no point. Think of them pulsing as your lungs expanding and collapsing as you breathe.
