Pump decision

I have a 72 x 18 x 22 tank that will be LPS dominant. I was originally set on 2 6105's on a 7096 controller. Now I'm questioning myself whether I need to control them or not.

I'm looking at the 6125 now since it is the closet to the 6105's in flow. Does it have the variable voltage PSU or is it a set voltage ? Just wondering if it is too strong, can I turn it down ?

If the pump is just overall too strong what are some other viable Tunze options ?

I have seaflor special grade sand so it " shouldn't " blow around. I definitely want to stay with the Tunze brand.

Thanks

6125 and 6105 are very different.

First the 6125 is just straight 115V AC, it has no speed or flow control, it plugs in and runs at the 60Hz (3600 RPM) speed set by the mains frequency.

The flow is also very different, while GPH may be the same, a 6105 has a narrower nozzle and so the pattern is roughly 7ft by 2ft at full power. The same flow from the 6125 covers about 4ft by 3ft, it is wider and more dispersed.

I see two main ways to go about this and a lot will depend on the type of LPS.

For a non controllable set up, I would lean toward 2 6085, alternated on a timer at 1hr intervals with roughly 5 minutes of overlap and if the LPS will be long polyped types, like Euphyllia, a 6206 Nano Wavebox would add a nice effect.

For a controllable set up, the 6105's would be the best bet, mainly because the tank is so long. You could even start with one and no controller and expand the set as your budget allows. 6095 is coming out in a few months, but its flow is about 4ft by 3ft as well and may be two weak in the center of the tank. This is basically a 6055 on steroids, producing a very wide flow but is better suited to shorter tanks.

Thanks Roger,

Answered a lot of questions. I'll stick with the original plan and go with the 6105's. I'm still in the setup stage, so I only need one pump right now just to get some circulation going.
