No, but it will build up calcium faster and should be cleaned more often, especially the propeller assembly should be removed and the motor and propeller soaked in 50/50 vinegar and water for a few hours or until all calcium deposits are removed, this should be done every 3-6 months depending on alkalinity, pH and Calcium levels.
