Pump noise, in wall

What works best to silence the pumps behind an in wall tank? I can hear my skimmer/return pumps through the wall... sort of a low rumble. Should I go with more insulation or should I put in some 3/4 inch wood between the pumps and the wall? I am leaning towards the 3/4 inch MDF or ply (painted).

Thanks

Low frequency noise is hard to stop. Are your pumps all on foam "mousepad" material? That helped my noise issues a lot. What kind of insulation are you talking about. Fiberglas batt or foam sheet?

Are your pumps plumbed with hard PVC? and if so are they touching the wall? That was my problem, I have alot of my plumbing mounted to the wall... and I get some vibration because of it....

Yes, except the skimmer pump (in sump) I guess there isn't much I can do about that one. As far as insulation, either if one would actually help.

I put some foam,, actually the stuff that came with my Mag12 that they want you to use to insulate the pump, between the pipe and the wall, helped alot... I haven't really had much time to tinker with it more though....

I think fiberglas batt would work the best. They sell sound attenuating batt. I don't know if it's heavier than regular fiberglas though.
