I bought a JBJ 28 Gallon secondhand. It came with two MaxiJet 1200 pumps. This weekend I got my tank put together, but realized that one of the pumps wasn't working. There was a kink in the wire, it actually shocked me when I found it underwater. Since the pump is only $20 on Amazon I ordered a replacement.
Today I got the new pump, and installed it on the right hand side. My problem, is that when both pumps are running (they are both connected directly to power as I do not have the wavemaker unit), the output is so much that the water level in the rear filtration area gets way low, and the water level of the tank is almost over capacity. The rear filtration area is probably only about 50% full, and even the compartment where the heater is mounted isn't full. If I unplug either of the pumps the rear filtration area fills back up to normal levels. For whatever reason, there is way too much flow with both pumps running.
I thought the MaxiJet 1200s were a suitable replacement for the JBJ 28 Gallons. What am I doing wrong to where two of them is pushing out way too much water?
