pump question for 240g setup

long drawn out explination, and a couple of short simple (i think, at least) questions...

i'm in the process of setting up a 240g w/ a 100g sump, two back corner overflows, plumbed @ 1.5"

at present, i've got two ampmaster 3600gph (w/ replaced seals, natch) doing closed-loop duty, and an ampmaster 5000gph connected to the sump. the purpose of the 5000 is split between feeding an ETSS 1000 and the return-to-display line.

the problems is...the ampmaster 5000 is *loud*...obnoxiously loud to a point that there's just no way i'm going to use it (if it were in a different room, it'd be fine, but there's no way i can accomplish that)...which leads me to my questions

a setup like this, would 1 large pump or two semi-large pumps be a better fix?

sequence seems like they have two lines of pumps 'reeflo' and 'saltwater' - they both sound like they're made for saltwater (and the accompanying grunge) but there's gotta be some kinda difference here that i'm missing - does one type have a better seal than the other, or something?

i'm considering two 3600gph sequence darts, one for the return-to-display line, and one for feeding the skimmer - but i figured it couldn't hurt to ask the large tank reefers if they might have some benifit of experience to share. i'd rather get everything right while i'm still in the freshwater testing stage than have to re-think/re-do things down the road.

about the only criteria i have are
must feed both skimmer and return
quiet.
low heat.
somewhere between $300-600.

I currently have the same setup as you and run a DART which feeds a ER8-2RC and main tank. Very, Very quiet and only about 160watts!

cool...much of a heat addition from the dart?

(i'm darn near sold just on it being quiet, tho)

I also have a 240 I am running the sequence hammer for return and running a mag 24 on dual cac skimmer, going to change the mag to a gen-x prp here in the future.

do you have a "humming" sound from the Dart? I can hear a humming sound from my Dart and not sure if its due to the hardline from the sump to the pump. Considering to use a flex tube.
Some people say that the dart is quiet...does this mean it humms?

They hum, I noticed that when I put one in line with flex it helped quite a bit. I also put felt under the pumps legs.

reeftoker - do you get much in the way of heat from the hammerhead?

i'm still kinda up in the air as to whether 1 large pump w/ a manifold splitting between the skimmer and the return, or 2 medium-large pumps, one for each purpose...as i'm going to have ~2000w of light creating heat above the tank, avoiding it from any other source when i can is my main priority

heap, I don't think a Dart would work with an ETSS skimmer. Darts are low pressure circulation pumps. You need a high pressure pump.

The saltwater pumps are slightly more higer end than the reeflo pumps.

aaah, thank you. this is the kinda stuff i'd have been oblivious to.

You're best bets are the Mak-5 or above, Iwaki RLTs, Sequence pressure rated (that includes the UNO line), and Pan World pressure rated.
