pump questions

Hi,

I'm considering running a dart for a CL on my 180. However, I'm also interested in a barracuda or hammerhead, depending on the noise level. Any opinion on the increase in noise from a dart to a hammerhead? Pump will be in my stand, same room as tv...

What does ballpark shipping cost run for these heavy items to Florida 32765? I guess I could order the hammerhead and return it if too loud, but that's a hassle for both of us!

Hi,

Going from the Dart to the Barr and Hammer you do notice an increased amount of noise. It is not huge, but there definitely is some. Without knowing the size of the room, the layout of the stand of which it will be in / opening in the stands, and the typical level you keep your tv at it would be hard to say.

What pumps do you have running in there now and I will try to make a comparison for you?

none :D this'll be my first reef tank. I think given my noise situation and the lower wattage benefit, I'm probably gonna have to go with the dart...

The dart will pull from a 1.5" bulkhead, I'll plumb 2" from the bulkhead to the pump. Return from the pump will be 1.5" pipe up to 1.5" bulkhead then inside the tank will tee to a manifold around the bottom. Not sure if the manifold will be 1" or 1.5". Also not sure how many and diameter of the outlets. Maybe 8x1/2", 6x3/4" or 8x3/4"..... I may try to plumb some different configs without gluing (inside the tank) to see how they work...

8 outlets might be pushing it a little for the Dart. Of course you can always play around with it not being glues to see what gets best flow. If for some reason it does not work out with the Dart in any configuration that you have and you want to go bigger just let me know and I will work something out for you.

Thanks,
Jeremy
