Pumps and valves

I read somewhere that using a valve to reduce the flow of pumps, like the eheims and mags, will actually reduce the energy consumption of the pump. Does anyone have a link to an article or more information to explain this?

Good lord... I can't imagine why you don't have time to read through that! Maybe I'll just buy/borrow a kill-a-watt and try it myself and see.
