I am trying to plan my 180 G reef tank as an upgrade from a 65 G tank. Do most of you use and one external pump to supply sump return water and water supply for GFO and any other media chambers? If so could I get a picture or drawing of what you found to be the best way to supply these items? and what is a good pump
Thx
Jack

I'm going to be using a water blaster hy-7000 to run my 180g from inside the sump. It will also run a line to the refuge, gfo, gac, and have 2 extra slot for expansion. I have tested this setup with freshwater and it runs everything fine with plenty of water still going thru the return, which is a single 3/4" sea-swirl. I've had great luck with the waterblaster and bubbleblaster pumps, also a eheim 1262 would be a good choice.

This is my 180DT with a 40 sump.

that 40 doesn't overflow during a power outage?

Not at all... My DT has a 1.5-2 inch draindown when return pump is off. Each (DT) inch is 7.42 gallons. The two overflows hold about 2.5 gallons. The Skimmer holds about 2.25 gallons.

When full powerdown is in effect I have 3 inches free space in the 40g sump. Each inch in the sump is 2.2 gallons. That will give me the free space incase the overflows leaked down and into the return lines. Plus have about a gallon free breathing room.

The picture I have is about 1 gallon fuller than normal. I know this because of the level on the right hand side return area. I have an ATO that keeps it right at a certain level.

The only way I could have a overflow, I would have to have just dumped the entire ATO in and broke two overflow compartments. Which I drain down just to check for any leaks out of the DT, just incase.
