Pumps/Suction for Syphoning

Does anyone syphon using anything besides your mouth? Whenever I bring SW home from the LFS, it takes me at least ten tries to syphon the water out of the barrel. Does anyone use a pump or some other way of syphoning water?

When I do my water changes ( from a 5 gallon bucket ) I use an old RIO 800. I use the elbow fitting that came with the pump. Hook it up to a plastic tube. Put the end of the tube in the sump, plug in the pump, and that is that. :)

I have an old MJ1200 powerhead stuck in the end of a long piece of 1/2" clear tubing that I use for that as well as for sucking the crud out of the bottom of my sump. I stick 6" of 3/4" hose on the suction side so I can just move it around in the sump to clean the bottom.

Mag 7 pump (I'm impatient) attached to 1/2 inch FPT adapter to a 1/2 hose barb adapter to 1/2 inch clear tubing. Use a remote control power outlet salvaged from Xmas lighting from Home Depot to control on and off of the pump.
