purchasiing anenomae and clown pair

I have a new 75 (40 gal regugium) that gets the LR next week, and a couple of weeks later, a royal Gramma and a Foxface. Next on my list, probably after the tank has been up and running about 3 months, is a pair of clowns, probably ocellarisa but maybe percula. I would like them to host with an anenomae.

Is it OK to put them in the tank after only three months?

Is it accepted practice to ask the store owner to put two clowns with the anenomae to see how they will get along? If the host, then I buy the three of them.

If I do this, do I quarantine the three of them? I ask that because I am concerned about not having high poweered lights on my 50 gal quarantine and how that could harm the anenomae.

Should I not worry about getting them at the same time and trust that the anenomae will host the clowns.

Thx:)

Your tank is not ready for an anemone. You should wait 6 or more months. Also, there is no guarantee that the clowns will host. Sometimes it happens right away, sometimes weeks or months, sometimes never.

Your anemone will not do well in a tank without proper lighting.

What type of anemone are you wanting to get?

Alot of our LFS in the area quite often have a clown pair & anemone for sale which they have kept in a tank together and the clowns host it. Is there anything like that for sale where you are? This way you get a pair and you know they will host the anemone.

THx for the input:) The info about them being able to host to it later lets me relax andget the anemonae in due time.

I am going to sound like an idiot here......... I know what carpet anenomae is - the one I was thinking of was not a carpet. There were two that caught my interest - a yellow one (small) and another that was pretty big with a bright orange foot. I think they might have been Haitian.

I will have 6 T5 ice caps as lighting on the tank.

JC, usually people are best able to start out with Long Tentacle anemones or Bubble-Tip anemones, as they are by far some of the easier ones to keep. BUT, keep in mind that I have had a rose BTA for over 2 years now, and I have tried various common clowns, and none have even taken to it, ...

If you are wanting a clown that will host a anemone maroons are a good choice. They will host a BTA almost all the time in my experience. Carpet anemone are fairly hard to keep. I would start out with a BTA when you tank is mature enough.

Agreed...start out with a BTA and be sure to get those T5's up before you get a nem...don't rush anything though...let your tank run through its cycles and get all your water stats perfect. Hopefully you'll never have to experience a nem that has died in your tank. IT IS NOT FUN!! BTA's are a lot of fun to take care of...however patients is key when dealing with nems.

It's entirely possible if you get a pair of clowns hosting in a nem at the LFS that they may decide not to host in it after you put them all in your tank.
There's no guarantee that clowns will host in anything, and sometimes they even change what they're hosting if the mood strikes them.
Too bad for me that mine haven't been struck by the idea to host in either one of my anemones.

No need to QT the Anemone.

Also, as others have mentioned, only go for BTA or LTA, and only after six month after your tank has been established.
