Hello everyone. I'm new to this site was hoping to get some opinions from those of you who have been here a while. I've decided to purchase complete fragging system from a member on this forum who has had the system setup for about 3 years. The setup includes the following:
The Main system holds approx 400++ gals and consists of:
1 X 90 Gal
4 X 30 Gal Breeder tanks (short tanks)
2 X 30 Gal Tall Tanks
1 X 55 Gal Refugium (glass aquarium)
1 X 110 Gal Sump (Rubbermaid type water tank)
All tanks are drilled for overflow and return lines, they currently drain either to the fuge or the sump and all tanks are hooked together via 110gal sump.
Pumps:
1 X Mag 24
1 X Mag 9 (currently used to power the 90gal)
1 X Dolphin Pump (backup pump unsure of number would guess it's 1200gal/hr at least maybe more)
1 X 900gal/hr pump used for skimmer
Skimmer is custom design recirculating skimmer and the design, build were modeled after the larger Deltecs
All pumps are hooked to a manifold system that lets you control the flow to each tank individually. This is great for creating low-flow attaching areas or gravel beds or simply cutting off the water flow to a tank entirely which is VERY helpful when performing underwater fragging or placing frags or for maintenance.
Lights:
3 X 175w Metal halides (single end bulb)
1 X 150w Metal Halide pendant light (Double end bulb)
1 X 250w Metal Halide (double end w/ 2 t5's for actinic)
4 X 3' T5's
2 X 3' Flourescents
2 X HO Flourscents
1 X Temp controller that is hooked up to 3 or 5 500w heaters
1 X Dosing system
Custom Electrical panel with switches and recepticals to control all pumps and lights.
Misc timers...etc
RO/DI filter system with fresh filters
35gal auto top off gravity feed system (very reliable)
Stands:
The 90 gal has it's own stand. The rest of the tanks sit on a custom stand designed strictly for fragging.
Fish:
1 Clownfish
Some misc damsels
1 Falco hawkfish (have had this fish since 1997 (yes he is almost 13 years old!!!)
1 Red Serpant starfish (the size of a pie plate)
There are some other misc fish I forget at the moment (I was into the coral, not so much the fish)
100's of snails and hermit crabs of varying breeds/sizes[/SIZE]
Many shrimp and emerald crabs
Right now the fuge (55gal glass tank) has a DSB (Deep Sand Bed approx 7"-8"). Two of the 30gals (the 30 talls) have deep sand beds (aragonite). The 90gal has med sand bed (4" approx). There are two mangrove trees and some marsh grass growing in one of the 30gal breeders (semi deep sand bed 4" approx). The rest of the 30gals have rubble beds which were used to allow natural attachment for coral cuttings. Every tank has some liverock and corals.
Also have several coral racks that hang in the tank for multi-level fragging.
Every tank has some corals and frags. Have some rare corals and some common stuff, it's a good mix that consists of several top seller corals which are easy to frag and sell.
2 buckets of Instant Ocean Salt
Multiple test kits
Lots of other misc stuff
I have so much other 'tank junk' I can't even begin to list it all. Basically you are buying a plug and play operation!
I'm getting the entire setup for $2000 and will be moving it in stages beginning with the 90 gallon tank. As for my personal experience with all of this, I've kept saltwater tanks in the past. I had a 75 gallon reef several years ago however it wasn't anything extravagant. I currently have a 15 gallon tall w/LR, fish and xenia at the office. So i'll be the first to admit I have a lot to refresh myself on and a lot to learn and relearn pertaining to this hobby. But I feel like this is a good deal on a great setup and i'm looking forward to getting started with it. My plan is to take a bout 6 to 9 months to get the system set back up and running and stabilized again before I try to do any fragging at all. I want to give it ample time to recover from the shock of the move. Then I would like to begin to work toward trying to get to the point that I can begin selling some frags. I'm currently working full time at the moment but I'm hoping to begin nursing school the beginning of 2011 and at that time I will not be working, just school full time. I'm hoping by that time I will be to the point that I can begin to sell some of the frags to begin making a little money on the side.
So, sorry for the long first post! I just wanted to get some feedback from some of you out there who have more experience in this type of thing. Please feel free to ask any question! Thanks in advance!
