Hi all new to this forum. Used to keep a reef tank years ago. Am looking at getting back in.

Does anyone here have any information on the rumor I heard that once a tank has been used for fresh water that it is not acceptable to use it for a reef tank. My buddy says that he has a 100 gall fresh water setup but that he did not think I would be able to use it. I think he is wrong. I thought it was only if you had kept reptiles and other animals. Who is correct.

Last question, I have a book written in 1997 byJulian Sprung and Delbeek. Do these guys have thier stuff togheter as I am going to use the book as reference material. Someone told me Julian Sprung is a reef guru.

Thanx for any input

The only issue with the freshwater tank is you need to find out if it was ever dosed with copper. From what I have read dosing with copper enters the seals of the aquarium and never really goes away. Many inverts cannot deal with copper at any level.

So, if the tank was never dosed with copper I say use it. My 90g AGA used to be an African Cichlid tank.
