I managed to find 50 lbs 99% min. bicarbonate for relatively cheap. What, if any variation is there on the two part recipe as compared with Arm & Hammer?
That should be adequately pure and it would be used just like the recipe in the article for baking soda, with the possible caveat that I am not sure of the bulk density of the material you have, so while the weight based recipe will be exact, the volume will be an approximation.
It is not so much the % impurity as what the impurities are, and food grade usually limits some of the worst possibilities. But yes, it is close to 100%.
It's swimming pool-grade, so it can't be absolutely horrible (can't imagine it being recommended, especially knowing little kids get big mouthfuls of water).
*edit* I may have to eat my words. I found some specs (generalized) on 'technical' grade (which is what this supposedly is) and it can contain up to 30 ppm of copper!!!!! I may have to pass.
