purple fungia damaged

I had a candy cane fall/ tip over onto my fungia twice recently. Yesterday, I noticed that it has several rips in the tissue and is quite receded. Any suggestions on helping it back to health? I bought a damaged one a few months ago and lost it, I don't want to loose this one! Thanks!

Hi,
You should dip it in a coral dip (seachem makes one), it has antiseptic properties to keep it from getting further infections. Also move it to md/lower light and try to feed it often (directly). If it does die keep the skeleton in the tank as it may have babies that will develop on the skeleton.

How important is the dip? Does that mean I should qt?

I am happy to say that although it did not inflate, the mouth did open up and eat some mysis. :) I have my fingers crossed.

With the damaged tissue and health considered, how often shoudl I feed it? I have heard that too much can rot in their bellies. Today I think I got it to eat at least 6 mysis. BTW, on a side note, I found a colony of mysis swimming around in my fuge. I even found two in my carbon reactor. Very neat to watch!

As long as the skeleton doesn't get algae growing on it the plate should be fine, just feed a bit extra

if it dies it could go acanthoculli

I think he meant that it could grow anthocauli. Anthocauli are daughter colonies that are sometimes produced by dying Fungia as a last ditch effort to survive in some form. The daughter colonies will continue to be produced for some time as they grow and break off. You can end up with a lot of tiny Fungia this way.
