+1, cyanobacteria. Increased flow can sometimes help. Keep your nitrates and phosphates low. How long has your tank been set up? It's fairly common in new tanks, as they mature you should see very little.

Looks like cyano. It's not an algae it's a bacteria.

How old is the system?
I just upgrade to 90 gal from 55gal for about 2 months. I have 55 gal for about 2 years. How can I get rid of this bacteria, it is going to harm my livestock. Please help

Nice Goby!

Re algae, I would try to siphon off as much of it as possible during weekly water changes with new SW mixed with 0 TDS RO/DI water.

Re GFO, I would change it weekly until algae subsides.

If you don't have RO/DI filter capable of producing 0 TDS water for top offs and water changes, I would get one as soon as you can.

Good luck,

Mike

I can't control cyano outbreak. I do water change, turn light off for 3 days, water test ok, add more flow no help. My last option is to use red slim, anyone have experience using them and how to advise using them, I don't like add medication but no choice. I want to make sure I do it right so I don't lose all my live stock. Please help
