not the greatest pics but here they go. this zoas were purchased locally but no mention of name. if they are not purple hornets they sure look mighty close. have been in tank for only one day. sorry for the poor picture quality. the ppe's have been in the tank for a month now.
those are a deepwater zoa morph, not purple hornets. Great looking mini colony. they usually sell for $10 a polyp online. it's great to see them open as well. I have 3 myself, and only 2 have opened. they seem to love light, as I moved my mini colony up high under my T5's and it loves it.
these are real purple hornets, you can tell by the alternating green, purple skirt.
the same reason they call them Japanese..... it's marketing.. I thought the same thing, so I put both down low. then after a week or two I moved the big colony up on my frag rack. it glows under the T5's and even more so under my LED moon lights.
here's one.. pardon the bryopsis
here are the other two, the one on the bottom still hasn't fully opened.
I was going to get that same frag at the top right..How do those look under the moonlights ? Also thats what stoped me from buying deepwaters they where always closed=(
they look slick. i bought a bunch of colonies from that batch, and they all look great. that was the smallest one I got, the others are about 3" in diameter.
thanks for the info guys. larryW you are correct, my skirts fade to green and not alternating. either way they look awesome and my crappy camera did them no justice. 25 polips for 20 bucks i cant go wrong.
those are midwest frags Xmens. they are out of them right now, but thats the only place I have ever seen them. I have a similar morph with a white skirt, but the orange skirt is wicked in person
