purple tang ich?

he has a lot of white dots that i think is ich but he isn't showing any signs of it. he doesn't scratch on the rocks, he eats like a pig when i feed my tank and he's not breathing heavy. im confused since sometimes he has tiny white dots and then overnight he's very colorful swimming around and has almost no white dots. i do have a spare 29 gallon tank that i can use as a qt and was wondering if theres someway that i can setup and use right away. ive read you dont have to use a filter? i dont want to wait 2 weeks or so to cyle. i want to cure it asap as we know it might be at risk and these guys arent 10 dollars.

You'll need to treat all of your fish in the QT, not just the tang. When you get this taken care off; I'd suggest you run all new fish through a QT regimen and avoid this in the future.

tangs have no protective slime coating, there highly suseptable to cryptocaryon or ick,the best natural thing is to feed them a spirulina pellet packed with garlic, then ad pure garlic oil concentrate to the aquarium if you cant treat the tank with cu. i have kept many purple tangs with great water quality and a supreme diet it can be reversed, stress causes it to,you want to keep the water little warmer to maybe 82 degrees.cold water spreads the parasite faster.the right diet and lower stress will keep it from coming back, also cleaner shrimp help to they love picking the ich off the fish.goodluck

I hate to be so critical; but this single paragraph has managed to contain most of the common myths about ich. Nothing mentioned in this post will cure or prevent ich. Cold water spreading the parasite faster is a new one for me, though.

im just speaking from personal experience.in my reef tank i had to treat my tangs the natural way as i couldnt add cu. ive personally seen ich disappear after garlic feeding and cleaner shrimp additions.it is a known fact that tangs have very little protective slime coating.everyone has different success.i just know what worked for me. the best thing to do is as stated get them in a quarantine tank with ionic copper for 4 weeks.
