Purple tang?

How aggressive are purple tangs? Would he mess with my emperor or sailfin tang? and would I be able to add a powder blue or powder brown after the purple? I currently have a 90g but, I will be receiving my big tank in about two weeks. BTW the emp and sailfin are both juvis' . thanks for the help.

Your sailfin tang would probably beat up the purple tang when it goes into the tank. I would probably add them at the same time when you get the bigger tank. The powder blues and browns are tough to keep, need high flow and good water quality. That would be quite a few big fish for a 210, but with good filtration, it could work.

Yes Purples are mean, they should be added last. I would wait until your 210 is up and ready, transfer your Angel and Sailfin and use your 90 to quarantine your new fish. [ Thats what I would do anyway]
Powder Blues are not hardy fish, yes a lot of people have luck w/ them but most do not adapt well to captivity
Not sure which 'Powder Brown' you mean...Ancanthurus Japonicus or Ancanthurus Nigerious [sp?]. Of the two, Japonicus is the better, more hardy fish. The other does not adapt to captivity, often dying in the first month. I have a Japonicus, beautiful fish... ich showed up 2 weeks into qt [of course] but it has had 4 weeks of hypo and is doing well.
If your 210 is a 6 ft tank, I would probably only add one more large fish. Sailfins and Purples are of the same genus so there is a better chance of aggression between those two . Its really a toss up, A Powder Brown maybe harassed by the established Tang where as the Purple added last may end up the aggressor
So, I guess I am really not being much help;) I would say either but I would only choose one

So I was planning on waiting at least 6-9 months befor adding the powder blue. would a PBT/sailfin be a better combo than the sailfin/purple tang? or just keep the Emperor and sailfin (redsea ) as my only big fish? I also want to add another angel but that is iffy!

Opps, the 210 is a 7ft tank, I may actually get a 240 (8ft) instead. That will be a very tight fit. I'm waiting on my tax refund, should be this week. my local dealer can get the tank in 2-4 days.

I just got an 8' , 240 gallon...I LOVE IT!! Go for the 240!!

I want the 240, but, the wall is 9ft long with a fireplace at 45 degress off at one end! the tank will be very close to fireplace. I dont use it but it looks cramped. I replaced my 52in HDTV with a fish tank! howz that for addicted? A reef tank is considered High Def, right?
