Purple Tangs

Just wondering if it was possible to put 2 small purple tangs in a 135 reef without a lot of aggression? The tank is currently stocked with mostly wrasses. Thanks.

Purples can get pretty mean as they grow. There's a very good chance of problems happening down the road, and they may even fight off the bat, even if they're small.

Purple Tangs tend to be aggresive toward other tangs unless in a very large system. I would only do the purple tang.

Not so fast there. I have seen tons of setups with mixed tangs without aggression. Infact hgbarwick, I am suprised you would be so eager to say that purple tangs are aggressive towards each other. You saw my thread.

Those two love each other.

I say go for it but be prepared to remove one just incase.

And you definately can get like a Kole Tang with a purple or Hippo.

After I saw your picture, it made me want a Hippo. I think I might try the same combo you have. Is the hippo smaller than the purple?

No to two purple tnags in your setup. YES to 1 purple tnag and a hippo tang. I curently have a hippo and a purple in my 125.

The safest way to go is to get 1 purple tang and 1 Blue hippo but I have seen tanks that size with two purple tangs multiple of times. Its not unheard of 2004.

But I would go with a purple and a hippo to be more diverse in your selection.

I just saw a thread on a 300g system with a school of purples...the thread starter didnt claim to have a school but every pic he put up had a group of about 5 purples all heading in the same direction in a tight group!
