purple whip & hammer?

I've got several hammers in my tank, and currently I moved a large piece to a new location, which is close to my purple whip gorgonian. Can I assume that maybe not now, but probably soon that hammer is going to sting the gorgonian? Has anyone kept these two in close proximity before?

I have had the most aggresion from hammers.

Does the hammer coral constantly put out sweeper tentacles? I'm not sure if it would recognize the gorgonian as a threat.

I'm not positive, but I would think any coral getting close enough to a hammer would cause it to react.

To be honest, I haven't actually seen either of them do it. (I have two, side by side) - they are pretty big, but I've yet to see them pick on the other guys.

It did sting me once though while I was moving a coral and brushed by it. Felt like stinging nettle. Didn't tickle.
