Purple worm in tank.

I got a call today from my dad who said that he is looking at a 6" purple worm in my tank moving around. He says that it looks like a bristle worm but he is not sure. Any idea what it is? Is it harmful to my SPS and how do I get rid of him? Seems to be in segments and climbs in the rocks. He also seems to be more flat than round and is close to .5" wide.

My tank has been setup for year and I havn't added live rock for it to hitch on for at least 2 years.

search under eucnid worm.

There are thousands of species of polycheate worms. Just make sure its not in that family.

Re: Purple worm in tank.

you could send him this pic and see if this is it. This bristle got to be at least 12 to 13" before I snaged him one night with a pair of pinchers.
