Put egg crate down in DT?

Should I put egg crate down on the bottom of my tank then add rock then add sand around the rock?

Some say this helps spread weight and protect your bottom if things shift. I don't see any harm, however, I don't think its necessary.

I thought it was to prevent rocks slides....

fastening your rock together with rods or pvc will prevent rock slides. I don't see any more possibility of rock slide with your rock on egg crate vs your rock on sand. More than likely the collapse would be from the top. But as serpent said, its most beneficial use would be to protect your glass if anything were to fall.

I wouldnt put eggcrate at the bottom of my tank, it would make it impossible for that sand to ever get stirred around and the bad stuff would just continue to add up.
