I would think that a majority of the water will just pass thru the sock above the media. Plus as the bag dirties up most the water will probably never even touch the media. Then you also have to consider that you will have to dump the media into a new sock every few days as you swap out your socks.
good point, that is exactly why i was throwing it out there. i am switching to a larger sump/fuge combo going from a tray system to a dual sock. looks as though reactors are in my future.
