Putting an internal skimmer inside the tank

So I was wondering if it is possible to put a Vertex 180i in the tank on a platform instead of in the sump, due to not having room for a sump. Would it be possible? I have a 800 liter tank btw.

I'm sure its possible, but will not look good, sound good, and will probably put a bunch of bubbles into your display tank

The skimmer I have now, which is a Turboflotor 3000 by Aqua Medic, puts a ton in it as well. I just don't have enough room where it is to put a sump in. The stand doesn't have enough room either. I can't think of any other options and I don't want another HOB because I can't find any good ones

You could, but I wouldn't.
You would also need a strainer on the pump input to keep fish from getting stuck to it.
And it will look horrendous.

I'd stick to a HOB skimmer.
Or I'd get a new stand that will allow for a sump.
If the stand is just an odd shape, get a custom acrylic one made.

You could always do multiple hang on's. Put the collection bucket underneath the tank. I wouldn't put a skimmer in the display tho, as stated above the pump will suck in anything that gets close and will clog. Build a better stand

Lots of great responses! Thanks everybody. No I haven't looked at the Tunze 9012. Does anybody have first hand experience on how well it works?

Haven't used the 9012, it just came out within the last month or two. I have used a 9010 and 9006 in the past and they did very well. The 9012 is going to look a ton better than any in sump skimmers in the display. I would expect the 9012 to perform much better than hang-ons and no risk of overflow.

So I ordered the 9012 from my LFS today so hopefully it'll be here this week. Shipping in Germany is usually pretty quick. I have had external HOB skimmers since I've had my tank. Wanted to try something else until I can figure out something with a sump.

I hope you will update the thread and give us a review of the 9012 after you get it going.

I received the 9012 today and overall I like it so far. Very easy set up and a small footprint inside the tank! It's not as quiet as I'd like right now, but it says it may be louder for the first few weeks. So I will post an update in a few weeks after break in.
