putting rock in the tank

I have some rock that I have had in a bucket for quite a few months that I originally took out of my tank and is totally dead or cured what every you want to call it and was looking for so opinions on whether it would be ok to just give it a good rinse and put it in or should I still put it in a salt water bath for a while first?

Has the bucket had a powerhead in it?
Were water changes done?
If no then I would not introduce it to your tank.
I would put it in a rubbermaid with saltwate, a powerhead and a piece of live rock and cure/cycle it for a few weeks.

dead and cured are 2 totaly different things. If its been in a bucket you need to cure it or cycle it just like you did your tank at start up

I agree with SeanT. You will need to cure it before placing it in your DT. The die-off will cause problems for you.

I just used old, dead, dry "LR" to start up a 12g Nano. The LR was used in a previous tank I tore down and just threw it in a bucket.

Anyway, I threw the rock in a bucket of vinegar and let it sit overnight; you will not believe the color and smell of the vinegar afterwards. I then threw it in a covered bucket with fresh saltwater, a heater and a powerhead. I would change out the water about every other day for two weeks and then every week for three more weeks.

This will get rid of a lot of the dead material on the rocks and get rid of any unwanted nutrients inside of it. My 12g has had no issues with any nuisance algae so far.
