when glueing pipes that will be in the actual tank is it ok to use regular pvc pipe glue...? wouldn't this mess up the water...you know..that strong smelling blue or purple glue...hmm???

Yes, that's the safest approach, as far as I can tell. Most people, including me, use the standard PVC glues, the ones rated for the pipes in question.

Once it dries it is reef safe.
I would reccomend using a rag to wipe up excess glue after the joint is made. It looks a lot nicer.
