Pygmy (Cherub) Angel

I would like to know if anyone has a Cherub Pygmy angel in a reef tank what kind of experience have you had? Are they reef safe? Will they nip at corals?

It's a crap shoot. It may pick, it may not. I had a pair. One was fine, the other ripped apart acros and gorgonians. If you try it, just have a plan for removal, just in case, like a trap.

I have one and he definitely makes his dominance known in the tank.

Otherwise i dont think he has ever nipped at any of my corals.

seen this question before some will say yes ,some will say no. I have one in my mixed 135 reef without any issues for five years now. That said I had a hippo tang in the same tank for about two years with no issues.(notice i said had) one day he thought my red brain coral looked like something to eat. I liked the coral more than the hippo. you just have to keep an eye on them. and be willing to get them out if trouble happens. if you want it get it...my 2 cents are spent

I have had mixed results too. Recently, I have been getting my angels eating out of my trap in my isolation tank so that I can quickly catch them if they become stupid in the display.

Mine doesn't touch corals but has an uncontrollable urge to nip at christmas tree worms and featherdusters.

I assume it's this way with pretty much all dwarf angels right? I was looking at the Flame Angel (which I've heard is hit or miss) and the Potters (which I haven't heard much about).

^^ i have a flame they are gorgeous....but mine is kind of shy first off and second off never seen him nip any corals model citizen

Your best bets in a reef:
Flame
Cherub
Flameback (acanthops and aurotonotus)
Potter's
Joculator

All relatively hardy (except Indo flames, which are often poorly handled and cyanide-caught; they will be much cheaper than Marshall/Christmas/Vanatu/Hawai'i) and are among the most coral-safe.

Bicolors are probably the least safe, though they are beautiful.

Are bicolors difficult to keep alive?

Sorry for the brief reply, but I need to start "contributing to the community". Still trying to get my 50 posts so that I can sell items. The moderator re-set my post count because I made 30 bogus posts today. In fact, he re-set my post count to zero as a penalty! I was at 20 posts and now... It's been a long time since I have been 'grounded' - so silly.

I have one in my FOWLR....there are some softies in there and it goes nuts on them. I would not seeing as though you want a reef tank to grow into a whole and muture....having to tear it down to catch that angel is gonna be counter productive.
