Pygmy possum wrasse

i have been looking at one of these for sometime now...do you think it will be ok in a tank with some fairy wrasses...i am not too worried about them picking on him...more worried about will he get enough food or not...just want some thoughts on this..thanks for any info

Mine will chase food down when it is really hungry. Otherwise he just waits for it to come to him. Mine can't resist small mysids.

Mine stays in the rocks most of the time peaking out from time to time...It usually only swims openly when the actinics are on. The only prepared foods I have ever seen it come out for is Cyclopese...Great little fish though! lots of personality!!

I guess I should have mentioned that he never really leaves the rocks. He is housed with 6 anthias and a couple of fire shrimp in a 180. I don't think he needs to leave the rocks since the tank is infested with mysids and amphipods.

The species I am keeping is a undescribed Wetmorella sp.. Very similar to nigropinnata but it keeps all its vertical bars as an adult the bars are white not yellowish to tan . Its body color is red with grey splash's(depending on its mood), not rusty or brownish like in nigropinnata.

well I got me a pygmy possum wrasse...really cool guy...he has at a little but not alot...but at least he has ate some...i really like this color but i know i probably won't see him much here is a pic of the little guy

Mine is usually around the rocks. Will come out and about if she feels like it. She eats mysis, spectrum pellets and flakes... not sure which species she is but does not have the middle bar like pic above

i wonder if i can have more than 1 in a tank or have different species in a tank... may try it...

We just got a couple in at the lfs I work at, and they hadn't started eating yet but Cyclopeez did the trick. One of scooted around and kept picking away at them

Now that I've seen 'em in person, they're definitely on my list. Very cool little fish.

well he is staring to eat alot more now...his color changes alot...on minute he is reall red then he is yellow...cool fish can't wait to put him in the big tank!!!!!

I have 2 W. nigropinnata and 2 of the new undescribed in my quiet tank. After some intial chasing, they seem to get on fine now. I added a golden angel at the same time. There is also a C. rubriventralis in that tank that hasn't bothered the new guys at all.

I have had the 2 W. nigropinnata for a year or so and they eat everything. The new ones seem to like live brine but seem to be accepting more foods as time goes by.

They are close to the coolest fish in the world and in the right, read quiet, environment they are not shy and have a ton of personality.

I sent photos of mine to Hiroyuki a few weeks ago and as of then they were yet to be named.

Sexing them is outside my knowledge and if anyone has any clues on this I am always ready to listen and learn

I have heard that Cirrhilabrus are known to spawn in public aquaria and have heard it theorised that fairies require 10m of vertical water space to spawn. Nobody can tell me that a Wetmorella needs 10m

I have kept two Wetmorella species (undescribed) of 52mm & 45mm (total length) in a small tank. They did not eat anything but I should have preserved them for examination by Jack Randall. He asked me to send these two to him and he will describe it as a new species soon (in aqua, Italy).

I like its orange-red colors.

I have one of the undescribed species. For the first month I had him he was alone and he only ate pods and other micro fauna on the rocks. Eventually he started eating mysis shrimp and later I moved him to a larger tank with peaceful tankmates. What I noticed from the pictures in this thread is that mine is a much darker red than the other ones pictured. Here he is:
