Q: About my red brain?

Just wanted to ask a question about my brain. Early this morning I saw my brain fully inflated for the first time. I have had it 2-3 weeks now. I initially thought I had a sick coral but apparently it inflates himself at night and in the morning when the VHO's are on. Later when the MH come on, he deflates. I thought brains did well in the light. Also he is started to fade. Water parameters are where they are suppose to be. Any suggestions on adding additional supplements? Also why is he fading and why does he deflate when my MH's are on?

I have a brain under 2 250 watt halides and it is in a shady area of the tank. It is inflated and open all day long. I agree that there is too much light on it.

I agree with the above. Prolly a little too much light. Mine is in a partially shaded area and seems to be doing very well.

I have mine out it the open and yeah I think you're right. I may just scoot him back into the shade:smokin: I also haven't target fed my brain. Is it necessary?

It isnt necessary but it will help its overall health and growth.
I usually feed mine Freeze dried krill once a week.
I used to feed it 3 times a week and it grew about twice the size within 6 months.

did you place the food directly in its mouth?

Try melting some frozen brine shrimp, cyclopeeze, or mysis in a small cup of tank water. Use a turkey baster to gently squirt it at him.

I would take a piece of Krill and squeeze it under water to water log it, and make sure the piece wasnt too big for it.
A good sized piece a little smaller than a dime works well.
I would place the food into the feeding tentacles when they were out and firmly put it there and the coral will do the rest.
