new to hobby when getting new fish how long should i keep them in qt before adding them to my dt

At least 4 weeks.
If there isn't any sign of desease by then, go ahead and add them to your display tank.
Some people like to quarentine for longer than that. You'll probably get several different answers.

thanks i have been lucky so far i have not used a qt everything looks good so far but before i add any more fish i will get a qt

yea qt new fish for about 1-2weeks. If there isn't any signs of illness you can just go ahead and acclimatize them to your display tank.

I did QT for 2 weeks but I ended up getting ich. From now on I'm going to QT with Paraguard for 4 weeks. If I see no disease then I will acclimate them to the Display Tank.
I learned my lesson the hard way but only lost 2 cardinals. The big pain is then getting ALL the fish out of the display tank and in to a hospital tank. That part took a week and disrupted the tank
