Q time

With all my tanks I finally decided I would go ahead and set a up a q-tank. In nearly 10 yrs I never had any issues not doing it, but figured my luck to soon run out. So right now I have a 75 set up with some fish I had shipped to me last Friday. Yellow tang, Fiji Fox Face, 6-line wrasses, and a couple lawn mover blennies. I have another 29 ready incase I need to isolate one of them. All look very healthy, full bellies, eatting well, and show no signs of any issues. How long should I keep them in there? I have read/heard that 5-7 days is enough time for any issue to show it's self. Ture or not? Also when I move them to the 220 I was planning on using the water in the 75 as a water change to the 220. Assuming there is no meds that had to go in there and no issues show them selfs. The water quality is fine, plenty of filtration with the rock I pulled from the sump of the 220. Good or bad idea?

I am not sure If I understand you correctly, but it sounds like you want to put LR in you QT. If this is what you intend to do, then it is a bad idea. Ich and other parasites, while requiring a fish host to survive, can live on the LR for part of their month-long life cycle. Sand is also a bad idea for a QT for the same reason. Best bet is bare bottom, skimmer, and UV sterilizer for the QT. If I misunderstood you, then I apologize.

Personally I would not put the QT water into my main tank. Not worth the risk just to save a couple bucks of RO/DI water and salt. As far as the proper Q time for fish, my understanding is that you should Q for 2-4weeks, but I am not 100% sure. Wetweb has always been a bit rough for me to sift through. Perhaps tonight once the kids crash. I have had the LR in the tank since last Thursday, I'll just let it ride in the tank for an extra week or two. The main reason I was thinking about using the 75's water into the 220 was part of a acclimation process, not to save on the RO.
